Upgrades at the Laser Centre

The Genesee Valley Laser Centre (GVLC) has upgraded our laser services with the addition of two fractionated lasers. In the past five years, the trend in cosmetic laser photorejuvenation has been to produce less down time with fewer side effects in resurfacing.

Our Centre added the fractionated laser by Starlux three years ago as part of this trend. Now we have added two more ablative fractionated lasers: A Fractionated Erbium Yag by Palomar and a Fractionated Carbon Dioxide Laser by Candela.

The Palomar Fractional Erbium Yag has several advantages over its Upgrades at the Laser Centre competitors. There is less pain than with the CO2 Fractional Laser and less downtime. The laser allows the physician to control the amount of coagulation and the depth of ablation in a simple treatment protocol.

The Candela counterpart, the Quadralase, with two hand pieces, also allows variable depth penetration with good coagulation and tissue tightening. The laser can also perform ablative treatments for destruction of benign lesions (i.e., warts, sebaceous hyperplasia) as well as traditional ablative laser resurfacing.

The GVLC can now offer a variety of ablative and non-ablative treatments for photo-aging, scars, skin rejuvenation, pigmentation and skin tightening. Because we have multiple choices, the individual can select a treatment based on downtime, results, side effects and cost. Dr. McMeekin, Dr. Lertzman, and Dr. Hahn would be happy to consult with you to see what we could do for you.

Esthetic Centre Update

With the expansion of our Esthetic Centre we decided to expand on our offerings. We have added Glo Minerals and a sunless tanner line to our product selections. The Skin Medica Vitalize Peel continues to be a best seller, prompting us to offer the Skin Medica Rejuvenize Peel. This new peel penetrates into the deeper layers of the skin and produces the most exfoliation. Benefits include minimal downtime and noticeable improvement after one peel with significant results after 3 to 6 treatments. Please see Kristine, our esthetician for more details.

Don’t forget to inquire about our monthly specials! Currently we are having a trade-in sale. Bring in your old, unused, unwanted make-up, cleansers, moisturizers and have Kristine set you up with a new skin care regimen. Receive 25% off your purchase!

News around the Office

You may have noticed that the office is undergoing the transition to Electronic Medical Records (EMR). The move towards going paperless has gained momentum moving everyone in the direction of EMR.

The conversion is a long process taking up to a year to be fully functional. While we are in the midst of training you will see the nurses using a combination of paper charts and electronic records. The nursing staff will now be utilizing tablets to input your medical information. One of the benefits will be that we will be able to fax prescriptions directly from the tablet to your pharmacy. Please be sure to give our receptionist your current pharmacy and primary care physician. Letters about your care can be sent electronically to your various physicians eliminating the time it takes for mail to be delivered.

Please be assured that access to your medical records is limited to medical staff. Information is backed up and stored off-site each night. Passwords are routinely changed to maintain security on your information. We thank you for your patience during this busy transition.

What You Need to Know about the Rochester RHIO

If you’ve been to the doctor recently you may have heard mention of the Rochester Regional Health Information Organization or RHIO for short. The RHIO is a secure online resource that gives authorized medical professionals a better way to obtain critical patient information. Created by local doctors, hospital systems and health insurers, the Rochester RHIO is one of several hundred RHIOs being established nationwide in an effort to improve our health care system.

In a nutshell the RHIO is a secure, electronic health information exchange that gives authorized medical providers access to essential patient information such as test results, lab reports, radiology results, medication history, insurance eligibility and more.

People often visit many different offices, physicians and other providers when getting help with a medical condition. With RHIO, your information goes where you go. That helps your doctors to make more informed decisions about your care and treatment with accurate, up to date information. It also helps to eliminate repeated testing, allows for easier second opinions, reduces the risk of adverse drug reactions, and minimizes errors caused by hard-to-read handwriting and transcriptions. By allowing providers to work more efficiently, the RHIO can help moderate the growing cost of health care.

Twenty healthcare organizations in the Greater Rochester area are providing patient information to the exchange, including major hospitals, reference labs, insurance providers and radiology practices. To see a full list of data providers, visit www.grrhio.org.

The technology offers new tools for patient privacy. Encryption, password protection, the ability to track every viewer and other safeguards protect patient information.

It’s easy to participate; simply say yes when we ask for your consent at check in, excluding yourself will deprive your doctors of this useful new tool.
